= Not in Spoelder (most prob. one of the early schoolprize bindings that the Haarlem Latin school issued to its talented pupils before they created a coat of arms stamp for these bindings (in the late 17th cent.)). With the prize awarded to "Gulielmo Six" [mr. Willem Six, Master of Laag-Teylingen] (1692-1757), alderman and council member of Haarlem) on "XVII Sept. A.D. MDCCVI [or MDCCV?]" tipped-in on first free endpaper. Schweiger p.1066: "Von den Ausgg. c. not. var. die vollständigste u. beste." SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XCII.

Daendels was a fervent patriot, serving as brigade general in Pichegru's army (1794) and politician during the Batavian Republic, and was eventually appointed gouvernor-general of the Dutch East Indies (1807) and the Dutch Gold Coast (1815). On the contents: Schweiger p.368.

= Spoelder 2. Early schoolprize with manuscript schoolprize dated 1659 and mentioning three names: H. de Groot, J. Schonoeus and G. Goethals. Willems 1177; Rahir 1197. "Les trois éditions d'Amsterdam, plus complètes que celles de Leyde, méritent à ce titre la préférence." (Willems). The first Elzevier edition was published in Leyden, 1628.
