= From the library of S.H. Turner (1790-1861), professor in Hebrew at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York (dedication to him on verso first free endpaper). Rare first ed. of Vossius' study on (semi-)Pelagianism. Rademaker 6. "The entire work is clear and composed in a comprehensive way, demonstrating that the author had a firm grasp of this difficult material and that he was at home like none other in patristic literature. (...) he wanted only to offer a modest contribution to the restoration of love and unity in the divided church. He wished to show that it was unjust to accuse the Remonstrants of heretical ideas in which they had neither part nor share." (Rademaker p.124).
