The Collection of JAN MEEMELINK (1943-2019)

With the unexpected and untimely death of Jan Meemelink, the world of collectors and dealers of antiquarian botanical books has lost a valued colleague. He was a man with three distinct passions: classical music, botanical books, and last but not least cycling. Although he valued his independance highly, he could be characterized as a non-solitary individualist, who was a respected member of the community of antiquarian booksellers in general and the Nederlandsche Vereeniging van Antiquaren in specific. Although some-what elusive, he regularly attended the various important auctions in his field and he had a wide clientele of like-minded lovers of botanical books and prints. His discerning taste, with a sharp eye not only for quality, but also for the wide range of subjects affiliated to the world of plants and flowers, is testified to by the fine private collection of which we will offer the second first part in the coming auction of 26-29 May.
