= Joined together these 4 maps show the first approximately correct map of India, carrying the title: "Carte de l'Indostan ou de l'Empire Mogol; d'après les observations les plus recentes." The cartographer James Rennell (1742-1830), is regarded as the 'father of Indian cartography' and was one of the founders of the Royal Geographical Society in 1830. SEE ILLUSTRATION PLATE XC.
