= "De Hongaarse aanhangers van het nationaal-socialisme, de Pijlkruizers, traden aan het eind van de jaren dertig steeds brutaler op. Zoltán Forrai, die inmiddels in Hongarije een bekend tekenaar en journalist was, verliet zijn land en kwam, na een verbrijf in Joegoslavië, in maart 1939 in Nederland aan. Hij kende het land niet, maar hij wist dat het in de Eerste Wereldoorlog Hongaarse kinderen had opgenomen. Via Nederland wilde hij dan proberen naar Canada of de Verenigde Staten te komen. Maar hij bleef in Nederland, maakte hier de Duitse bezetting mee, leerde zijn vrouw kennen en kreeg ook de Nederlandse nationaliteit. Een Hongaarse Nederlander - of een Nederlandse Hongaar - die in een lang en arbeidzaam leven veel tekende, schreef en fotografeerde. Een man met een wonderlijke levensloop die het grootste deel van de twintigste eeuw van nabij meemaakte en er notitie van genomen heeft." (introduction to K. VAN WERINGH, Zoltán Forrai.
