"Young was the last of the natural philosophers who could know all that was to be known. He was the perfector of the wave theory of light, he expounded the mechanism of vision (...) This Bakerian Lecture delivered in November 1801 is en epoch-making contribution to the theory of light in all its phases (...) Young, in this and two subsequent papers printed in the Philosophical Transactions, July 1802, and his Bakerian Lecture, November 1803, based himself firmly on the theory that "radiant light consists of undulation of the luminous ether". Extremely rare.
