77/2860 [Architecture]. Alexander, J. August H. (1863-1942). "Werktekeningen". Collection of numerous designs, pencil, all but a few with the architect's stamp, mostly kept in contemp. hcl. portfolios.

= Trained as plasterer and later sculptor, mostly for buildings. He started at the atelier Van den Bossche en Crevels and later continued on his own, mostly for various Dutch architects. His work was regarded as a conservative continuation of 19th century styles, but at the end of the 19th century he was one of the very few people left who mastered those various styles in the Netherlands. Especially his ceiling ornaments were highly regarded. This collection shows the various projects he executed throughout the Netherlands. Mostly designs for ornamental ceilings and walls (i.a. chimney pieces), but also upholstery, funerary monuments. Most designs were executed. I.a. a staircase for the Bellinckhof in Almelo, De Gele Hoef in Rosmalen.
